In my class we teach that nobody is perfect and it's alright to make mistakes.
This year is the first year your children will experience both the trials and goals of the standardized grading system, and like me it is inevitable that they will make plenty of mistakes. But there is nothing wrong with failure, so long as we learn from our mistakes.
I think Alfred Pennyworth from Batman said it best,
"Why do we fall Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up again."
I hope that you will encourage your kids to do their best, and be okay when they mess up. Life is filled with losses and victories, and our character isn't determined by how we handle the wins. Instead it's how we handle the losses. It's going to be a hard year, but I assure you that your kids will learn and grow from the challenges ahead. I look forward to working with them this year and watching these heroes grow.
